December Game Review: Turtles In Time

Cowabunga! Get ready to kick some shell in this 1991 follow-up to the original Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles arcade game from 1989. Up to four players can join in, each taking control of one of the four turtles, Raphael, Leonardo, Donatello, or Michelangelo. Each of the four turtles plays slightly differently, so try them all out and decide on your favorite.

You can press ATTACK and JUMP at the same time to perform a special attack, unlike the home versions of the game, using special attacks in this version does not take health away, so go ahead and use special attack whenever you like. The large character graphics are very accurate to the animation in the original cartoon from the 80s.

This game has a phenomenal soundtrack, but I particularly enjoy the background music from the stage, 'Bury My Shell At Wounded Knee', which takes place on a train. The song begins with percussion which invokes the rhythm and sound of a steam engine chugging away.

The attract mode for this game features a snippet of the song 'Pizza Power' from the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles' 1990 'Coming Out of Their Shells Tour', a bizarre live concert which can be found on YouTube, if you want to experience it for yourself.
